How to prepare a file for 3D printing?

Proper 3D file preparation is key to a successful print. In this guide, we explain what to pay attention to before sending a model for printing.

The most popular file formats are STL, 3MF, and OBJ. STL is the most common format, but 3MF offers additional capabilities like saving colors or textures. OBJ works well for more complex models with textures.

Before sending your file, make sure the model is watertight - there are no holes in the mesh. Most 3D modeling software has a function to check and repair mesh errors.

Pay attention to model orientation - sometimes rotating the object by 90 degrees can significantly improve print quality and reduce the need for supports.

If your model requires supports, it's worth thinking about their placement at the design stage. Sometimes a small modification to the geometry can completely eliminate supports.
